The Issue:  Climate change is making New Hampshire weather hotter, drier, and more extreme. Granite Starters know New Hampshire’s environment and future are inextricably linked. 

 

As we continue to feel the real time effects of climate change, we need leaders who will take action to combat it and protect New Hampshire’s environment. Unfortunately, Republicans cannot combat the threat of climate change because they refuse to acknowledge it exists. The NH GOP and Governor Sununu are deep in the pockets of Big Oil, and have actively worked to ensure the state is dependent on fossil fuels.

• In contrast, President Biden just signed the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) into law. The IRA makes significant investments in clean energy to combat climate change. 

• This historic legislation is set to reduce carbon emissions by 40% by 2030. As we continue to see the real time effects of climate change across the county and in the Granite State, there is no better time to celebrate the most significant climate change legislation in U.S. history.

• Here are just a few of the things the Inflation Reduction Act will do in the next 10 years: 

  • Lower individual energy bills by up to $1,000 per year

  • Reduce carbon emissions by roughly 40% by 2030

  • Expand Medicare benefits and caps out-of-pocket drug expenses

  • Create millions of new domestic, good paying, clean manufacturing jobs

  • Close tax loopholes exploited by the ultra-wealthy

  • Protect families and small business making $400,000 or less per year

• According to analysts, the IRA will send $2.6 billion to New Hampshire, creating around 4,400 new jobs and generating $350.7 million in the local economy over 10 years. It will help the over 130,000 small businesses in New Hampshire save money, assist New Hampshire’s 4,100 farms with climate forward agricultural practices, and outfit the homes of thousands of Granite Staters with flood-proofing and storm resistance upgrades to make them resilient to increasingly severe weather conditions.
